Revealing Fraudulent PPC Clicks by Bad Bots with Distil
In this tutorial video, you’ll learn how to use Distil’s Click Fraud report.
Malicious bots access your site by any means possible and take any route they can find. Sometimes they attempt to penetrate by clicking search engine ads and PPC campaigns. This is particularly harmful—you pay for each fraudulent click even though the visit is valueless and reduces your ROI immensely.
Distil’s Click Fraud report lets you easily view valued clicks by humans versus fraudulent clicks (those carried out by bad bots). Drill down to specific dates and bad bot click instances, then use that as evidence in disputing false clicks with your PPC provider.
Access the Click Fraud report by following the steps below:
1. Log in to the Distil Networks Portal to access the Domains dashboard.
2. Select a domain.
3. Click Reports on the banner menu.
4. Click Traffic Overview to expand the Reports dropdown menu.
5. Select Click Fraud.
The Click Fraud report includes:
• Date Filter – Specific date range highlighted by the Click Fraud report.
• Group By Filter – Isolated source of click activity surrounding specific agencies, referrers, campaigns, sources, and mediums.
• Download CSV Report – Save the report data as a .CSV file on your computer.
• Total Bot Clicks vs. Human Ad Clicks – Breakdown of all ad clicks identified as either human or bad bots.
• Top 5 Agencies by Bot Clicks – Breakdown of the top agencies servicing ads that received fraudulent (bad bot) clicks.
• Daily Click Fraud Activity – Graphical breakdown of daily fraudulent click traffic generated by bad bots.
Use the bottom Daily Click Fraud table to dig deeper into the data, such as to collect timestamped properties for fraudulent clicks.
